13. APRIL
2008 - BETHNAL GREEN CONCERT, SINGLE UPDATE AND ALBUM PROMO
You can watch
a video of "Too tough to die" from the London concert at the 'Star of Bethnal
Green' here. The
sound quality is not very good, though....
Some news
about the Poison single from the official
website: The single will be released as a CD and download version with
these tracks:
CD:
1. Poison
2. Soldier
Boy
3. Like Poison
4. Poison
(Van She Tech Remix)
The download
version has a fifth (exclusive!) track: Poison (The Officers No Remedy
Remix).
You can preorder
the single (limited to 500 copies, as the website says) in the Independiente
Store (I recommend not to follow the link from the newsletter like
I did, because it leads you to recordstore.co.uk, which is much more expensive!)
You can also preorder the album "The Blue God" at Independiente or at recordstore.co.uk
(for the same price, recordstore gives you a free poster with it).
I bought a
promo copy of "The Blue God" (you can find them easily on ebay), which
I will add to the promo discography with some sound samples shortly....
I'm a little disappointed by the first listen of the album, but maybe it
will grow. 1. APRIL

9. MARCH
2008 - CARNIES SINGLE & MISC. NEWS
Martina's
single 'Carnies' was released on March 3! Check out the discography

and a promo CD for 'Carnies'.
Martina will
perform live on BBC radio on Monday at George Lamb's show "6 Music". For
more details go to their website,
the show will start at 10 AM.
I've also
updated the concertography with details
for her latest concert and TV appearances. I found a video on You Tube
where she performs one song with The Gutter Twins live, go here
to see it (the sound quality is awful, though).
Last but not
least: you can watch a "Behind-the-scenes"-documentary of the 'Carnies'

is limited to the first 50 orders, so hurry! I have no idea what is on
the 7", probably the song 'Carnies'. You can also win a test-pressing of
'Carnies' here

Two songs (Shangri La and Valentine) can also be heard on
her My Space site.
The album will be produced by Danger Mouse, read more on NME.
Martina also
recorded a song with Leila, you can hear it on Leila's
My Space. It's called "marterry", but maybe that's just a working title?
Leila's new album "Blood, Looms and Blooms" will probably be released this
year, there is no release date yet. Check out her official
website (but it's under construction at the moment).
[Thanks to
Ferdinand, Peter, Jeremiah and Dorimar for these info]

Probably the old forum will be back in use when a new album is released
and the official web site is redone and updated.
3. JULY
2006 - NEWS UPDATE
As I haven't
updated this site for quite a while, here are some misc. news from the
past weeks and months (oops, even years):
+ a song by
Martina was released on the Starbucks compilation "Sweetheart" in January
2005: 'I only have eyes for you', a cover song, originally by The Flamingos.
(Check out the discography for details)
+ a collaboration
with the Italian band (or project) Jetlag was released in March 2005: the
song is called "Need A Call", the album "On The Air". Go to the collaborations
discography for details.
+ and a third
song was released (February 2006): "Warzone" with Puracane. It can be found
on their album "In Limbo" and you can listen to it here,
also check out the collaborations discography.
+ also this
February Son Of Dave's album "O2" was released with a collaboration with
Martina: 'Devil take my soul'. The song was already on an earlier 7", including
a remix (again more details in the discography).
+ Martina
also joined Son of Dave at the album launch party, see photos here.
+ you can
read an interesting article about Martina working on her new album here.
+ check out
a video interview with Martina and Roots Manuva here.
[Thanks to
Ferdinand and all the people at the Martina
forum, where I found most of these infos!]
2. JULY
2006 - MARTINA'S NEW ALBUM
SORRY that
I haven't updated this page for a long time, but to be honest there was
not much happening anyway! Martina was or is working on her next album....
And now it seems it will be released next year. As you can read on Intro
(in German) it will be produced by Danger Mourse and be released in the
beginning of next year.
If you want
a little Martina-related eye-and-ear-candy in the meantime go here
to see a live appearance with the Gorillaz feat. Roots Manuva and Martina
in New York's Apollo Theater from this year (click on "All alone feat.
Roots Manuva" on the right). Unfortunately you need Internet Explorer 6,
Windows Mediaplayer 10 and Macromedia Flash 7 to view the video.
Another little
news tidbit: Martina wrote in her forum
that she did a song for a film called "The Decameron" (probably the working
title). Maybe it is the film "Angels
and Virgins", which is in post-production at the moment... Browsing
the IMDB I also found out that Martina's song "Music Box" was used in the
spanish movie called "Aizea: City of the Wind (Ciudad del viento)" (go
here
to see details). I haven't seen the movie so I can't confirm this, and
a soundtrack is nowhere to be found.
More new and
older news soon....
15. AUGUST
2005 - MARTINA & ROOTS MANUVA
This is a
bit of "old" news actually, but anyway.... Martina appeared as guest vocalist

chance to still see and hear it: there's a videostream for her performance
here.
Check out
a remix of "Stevie's" by Sam Downie here
(go to 'music and film demos').
And last but
not least news about a collaboration that will probably never be released:
Martina did vocals for a song by Diplo, called "Into The Sun". It should
be released on his next album "Florida", but now there are rumours that
Martina's management won't let it be released with her vocals. There are
limited promo CDs and double vinyls out with the song, check out the collaborations
discography for details and sounds! The album will be released on September
13 on Big Dada Records (click here
for more infos).

Doing some
research I found these people involved in the recording: Andy
Strange (sound engineering), David
Arnold (producing), , Marsha
Sinason (lyrical consultant?) and Steve
Sidelynk (programming). And also David

18. MAY
2002 - NEWS FROM MARTINA'S FATHER!
Here are some
news about Martina's album that her father sent me:
It will
come out this year. It is almost ready now. She did indeed get David Holmes,
Tricky and Marius De Vries to do some production, and some mixing has been
done by Mark Stent, with a lot being done by Jake Davis who did the work
on Ocean's Eleven. Martina was supposed to work on Ocean's Eleven herself,
but it never happened.
Most of
the work - writing and production - has been done by a team Martina
herself got together through a slightly unusual family connection: one
of my sons by a previous marriage is a songwriter.
So why
has it taken so long? Because she is a perfectionist. I have actually been
listening to most of the almost-finished tracks for the last few days.
I think it will be of the same calibre as Maxinquaye - but then I'm
biased. I also think people will be surprised by the wide range of the
songs. One distributor recently heard them and said he thought there were
"five classics".
[Big big thanks
to Drayton Bird for these infos!]
