Tricky, the
artist hailed for revolutionizing the trip-hop genre, has signed
an exclusive
deal with Hollywood Records for the U.S. release of his next
album.
Tricky began
his career in the late 80s as part of the Wild Bunch, the
Bristol based
collective that went on to become Massive Attack. After
contributing
guest raps on Massive Attacks 1991 debut, Blue Lines, and
working on
two tracks for the follow-up, Protection, Tricky released his
first single,
Aftermath, on his own Naïve label in 1993. Two years later,
he released
Maxinquaye, an album Rolling Stone named one of the essential
recordings
of the 90s. The album entered the UK charts at No. 2, and
wound up topping
several year-end polls in Britain, including those featured
in Melody
Maker and NME. Over the course of his career, Tricky has released
such critically
acclaimed albums as Pre-Millenium Tension (1996), Angels
With Dirty
Faces (1998) and Juxtapose (1999), while collaborating with
artists as
diverse as Bjork, Garbage, Bush and Elvis Costello.
Tricky is currently
working on his Hollywood debut, which will feature guest
appearances
from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis Morissette, Cyndi Lauper
and Ed Kowalczyk
from Live among others. The album is due for release this July.
