about 135 min. vocals: Tricky, Martina, Cath Coffey
"So he wrote a song about "putting [Smith] in the boot of a car shooting his face". Tricky gave the tune, "Darker Magic", to British rapper Silvah (ne Silver) Bullet, and this summer it may finally come out, on Bullet's album. "Fuck the music industry, let's take it back to the council flats, guns, grenades and baseball bats," it goes, roughly." (The Face, May 98) This live song uses some of these lyrics, so we called it 'The Andrew Smith song'. (The real song 'Darker Magic' surfaced in 2017 on a CDR with the unreleased album of Silver Bullet, check out the collaborations discography here). Also Cath Coffey sings on this live song, parts of her own song "Doll On A Music Box". I've uploaded it for you, since it's not on You Tube or anywhere else. Listen to it here. I tried to write down the lyrics, a lot of these are repeated, it's probably improvised. Only the "chorus" (fuck the music industry...) are taken from 'Darker Magic'. Cath Coffey: This is the way we do it. (repeated throughout) Tricky: I roll my sleeves up, fuck a few MCs up, wait for you to set off, blow your fucking head off. (2x) Fuck the music industry, let's take it back to the council flats, guns, grenades and baseball bats. Fuck the music industry. I roll my sleeves up, fuck a few MCs up, blow your fucking head off. I blow your fucking head off. On your knees, boys, On your knees, boy, I wait for you to set off, wait for you to set off, and blow your fucking head off. Cath Coffey: Swing high, swing low, see where you're going you're dancing on a merry-go-round. Nowhere to hide, you never get a free ride, so watch it when you're winding down. This is the way we do it. (repeated) Swing high, swing low, see where you're going. you're dancing on a merry-go-round. Nowhere to hide, you never get a free ride, you never get a free ride, you never get a free ride. This is the way we do it. This is the way we do it. Swing high, swing low. (repeated) This is the way we do it. (repeated)Tricky: Are you the real one, the real funky real one. (repeated) (Then parts of the lyrics are repeated) If you want to hear another version of that song: it was also played at the T&C Leeds one week later with different music, check out the setlist here, there is a link to listen to the whole show! Here is a short review for the show (from Rock & Folk, June 1997): Here is a scan of the ticket. |
